Amethyst Jewelry

Amethyst Jewelry

Amethyst is a gemstone that is used in various types of jewelry. The actual word Amethyst is derived from the Greek word amethystos, which has a literal translation of “remedy against drunkenness”. Amethysts, and all gemstone for that matter, are graded in the exact same way as diamonds. They are graded by their color, clarity, cut and carat weight. Amethysts are known as a variety of crystallized quartz, and are a member of the Quartz family, or to give them their scientific name, silicon dioxide. You will typically find that the crystal structure of an Amethyst is hexagonal.

Amethyst jewelry comes in a wide variety of natural shades and colors. These include purple, bluish-purple and reddish-purple. However, with that said, amethysts in their purest form are actually colorless. An amethyst will produce color due to the absorption of certain wavelengths of light. The color will consist of three separate components which are the hue, which is the initial impression of color. The tone, which is the term given for the lightness or darkness of color and the saturation, which measures the intensity of an Amethyst’s color.

The amethyst is also known as a birthstone for the month of February. It covers the zodiac sign for Aquarius which is known as the water bearer. Amethyst is also a wedding anniversary gemstone that is typically presented for the fourth and sixth year of married life. The amethyst as a birthstone also has certain properties that are associated with the zodiac sign of Aquarius. These are stability, balance, courage, inner strength, peace, sincerity and a calm disposition.

Amethysts are also said to have certain healing properties and are able to help with certain health problems such as withdrawal symptoms that are suffered due to an addiction. In fact the amethyst is often referred to as the sobriety stone. It was often used to treat alcoholism and prevent drunkenness and also to treat numerous other types of addiction. The amethyst is also believed to have certain healing qualities for headaches, arthritis, insomnia, circulatory issues and pain relief.

There are many different types of amethyst jewelry, although the most popular are rings, brooches, pins, cufflinks, bracelets, pendantsearrings and necklaces. It is also believed that the gemstone Amethyst is able to conduct the energies of the planet Uranus. Therefore, should you wear amethyst jewelry it is believed that the energies of the planet will be focused through the gem.

The Amethyst is, without doubt, one of the most popular forms of jewelry, and this enthusiasm is not reduced by the fact that amethysts appear to be abundant. They are typically found in many countries throughout South America, and certain regions in Africa. The fact that amethysts are so readily available, make them relatively inexpensive and this only adds to their popularity. The vivid color of amethyst jewelry makes it look stunning, although this is further enhanced when jewelry is made from silver, platinum or white gold. You will actually find that amethysts will complement these types of precious metals.

It is important to realize that amethyst jewelry is likely to vary in different parts of the world. This will, of course, have a lot to do with where it was mined. The location of mine will determine the exact shade an amethyst is likely to be. The color of Amethyst jewelry is known to be extremely eye-catching, although many people prefer to pay attention to the particular features and shape of the stone. There are also various cuts of Amethyst jewelry, but the most popular is said to be a round cut. The round cut is known to show off the beautiful colors of amethysts.

The two most popular types of amethysts that are typically sold to consumers are the Rose de France, which is known to be a pale violet or pinkish color. However, the most prized of all amethyst stones are known as Siberian amethysts and are typically deep violet, or even red, in color. You should be aware that Siberian amethysts still come from many of the countries mentioned above, and actually have nothing to do with Russia at all. Another use of amethyst jewelry is in numerous religious artefacts that are generally used by the Catholic religion. You will actually find that many of the upper echelon clergy will wear an amethyst ring. This will have much to do with the amethyst stone being known as the stone of spirituality and contentment.
